Hi there guys and girls,
I'm from Newton Aycliffe County Durham.
Basically I have a 335d x drive with the
Entry business nav headunit in it with 6.5 inch display.
I went on a road trip last week and on the way back home I pulled over for a few minutes, went to get back into the car and the idrive display just kept rebooting itself.
I've spoken to a few people who say the headunit will need replacing and a few who say usually a software update will fix this,
Is there anyone local to me who would be able to help? I don't want to travel down the country to then find out someone doing the software update can't fix this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated 👏

i’d replaced the hdd first as that usually causes the idrive to keep rebooting and it’s the cheapest fix to try first.

either make your own or buy one off ebay.

good luck.

Thanks mate, I take it the hdd is the headunit as such? Found one on Ebay for 120 quid they obviously a fairly common thing to go?

yeah - hdd is inside the hu, so you just have to unscrew and get the access.

you can do replacement yourself at a much cheaper cost but that price, it’s fine for them to just be p-n-p.

here is a thread on them.

Are you using the myBMW app???
I had an issue where my iDrive in my X3 would go dark and then reboot itself. My dealer contacted BMW NA engineering and they said the problem is caused by an interaction of the car and the myBMW app. Apparently this issue has surfaced across the entire BMW line. In my case I had version 4.3.2 of the app and they recommended that I upgrade to version 4.5.1 (did anyone get a notice to upgrade?). They claim this will fix my issue. I hope they are correct and it may be a solution to your issue as well?
To find what version of the app you are running go to the very bottom of the "Profile" page and click on "About My BMW app".

If I was to swap the hard drive out of the unit I have bought and put it into the old headunit would any programming be needed at all? Thinking of if that's the case this would be the cheapest option. But if it still needs programming I might aswell just swap the whole thing over. Let me know cheers mate
