Remapped gearbox?

I've had my 335d for about a year and it's a decent car and does most things really well.

I booked a stage 1 generic engine remap with a local tuner, only to find out that it was already remapped!

I hadn't test driven any other 335ds before buying it, so I didnt really have anything to compare against. It felt standard as far as i was concerned.

Anyway, I thought that I'd look into xHP software for the gearbox, but I have a feeling that the gearbox has been remapped too. I've done some searching online and the fact that I can see what gear I am in - D1, D2, D3 etc is a giveaway that the gearbox has been tuned? Is there any other way to check?

No, you can code that in. I did that long before xHP was a thing on the 340.

There really is no tell tail sign if it's the gearbox was touched.

I think the Alpina tune enables D1, D2 etc. XHP you can toggle that on or off.

As above, you can't tell what map the gearbox or engine has as 3rd party maps block read access. Only BMW can tell it's been mapped via software signatures and checksum, but even they can't tell you exactly what map it is, only that it is different to what it left the factory with.

I suppose in the event of a warranty claim (if you have BMW extended warranty) BMW would have to prove it's an aftermarket change and not a dealer update.
