Hello everyone, for those of you that got the mppsk kit on your 340i/440i for the tuning part do you have to get it done at a bmw dealership or can a shop install the tune aswell?

i believe the dealership (should install) it and must install it to have the warranty. if you have someone else do it and something goes awry, you'll have no recourse. unfortunately, this comes with stealership prices, though.

Dealerships are quoting me $1000-$1500 just for the install which is absurd

A dealership has to do it. Installing the tune involves the BMW servers.
I'd shop around the average price is $500 for installation based on threads I've seen. |

get a cheaper quote from another dealer, even if they’re far from you. then ask the local dealers to match, they most likely will.

Yeah it’s dealer install. You can print the quote from getbmwparts.com and bring to the dealer and they will order the part and schedule appointment to install. They will price match.

Yes they can charge just for labor and flash but you might as well have them order and ship to them and you just bring the car in. They will price match.

There’s bmwpartspros too I think it’s also a dealership. Cross shop all of them. Not sure if fcp sells it but you can check. Also BMW of Fairfax has an online store. They’ll run sales throughout the year like Black Friday as well.

You could always flash it with BM3 which has the MPPK map or use stage 1 tune (with has even more boost) while maintaining that awesome sound.

Will do I talked with the people at fields seemed really nice I didn’t know knauz holds the exhausts and has a warehouse so that would bring the cost even lower since it wouldn’t be shipped anywhere

MPPK is for N55 cars. It may affect warranty coverage if using a third party map as well as emissions smog test in states that have those. So you would have to flash back to stock mppsk when doing emissions in states where that’s required for registration.

this is why MPPSK are so great for resale value, saves the new owner thousands of dollars due to OEM and dealership markups. the people who factory ordered their MPPSK got the best deal.
i didnt invest in a MPPSK for a number of reasons, but the cost from dealer was definitely at the top of that list.

I agree the MPPSK is a great thing to add to your car giving it more value then it already has for the long run especially if you can get a crazy good deal on the kit will always hold value since it’s OEM and eventually even being more sought out for later on.

Be sure you check the price on their online store, because the parts department will not quote you their discounted online price.

The price on their OEM store for knauz has the cheapest and most discounted one I’ve seen in the area and I’m pretty sure they should just price match it since it’s on their website

I pretty much agree with this. I had a couple of rattles that needed dealer attention. Knauz wanted to charge me a $200 diagnostic fee plus the cost to fix them. Fields applied the diagnostic fee to the repair cost so I didn’t pay for both.
