Not worth it............

What I would do is this: Remove the filter partition

This will open up the area to fit a dual flange filter. You just need to fabricate your own connection piping
That's a good idea. What size piping would fit into the inlet holes ?

Why is everybody modifying factory airboxes? Ya'll acting like you're still in warranty, or care about such things... which are voided by such modifications anyway...

Dunno, you will have to look into it. I could probably do my own and just send it in for mock-up to have a filter made for it for testing. Thats easy....

I know the EU guys would love something like this if proven and it would be cheap, well let's rephrase that, it will be cheaper than the well known CAI intakes, and will pass visual inspection for the guys in EU if pulled over.

Not everybody wants to change the look from the stock airbox, I don't like the ricey look of dcis myself.

Each to their own.

I'd like to get my hands on an alpina b3 biturbo airbox and snorkel, they are a bit bigger than 335i and look factory. Can't find any though.

Iv had a few different intake set ups now and have come to hate the sound of open filters. As much as I'd love a carbon airbox im not willing to pay what they cost! If I can make my factory airbox as efficient as possible with a k&n, mr5 mod and a z4 lid while still maintaining a stealth/factory look and a subtle sound then that's worth it IMO.

Yes, the box is "identically" the same making the covers interchangeable
Does the Z4 lid flow demonstrably better?

Quite sure no big gains, but that design of the stock airbox - space above the filter and the turn has always irked me. It really is a small area. Many times considered a spacer or vacuum forming a new lid.

I have just ordered the "$137" z4 airbox from car-part. Let you guys know.

Thanks much for the input. I'll be curious, as I'm sure others will be, whether the car breaths better and you get the benefits of more air higher in the rpm range, etc...

Too bad dyno's aren't free and we all have other things to do with time and money. At that price, a bumpy in powered from an easy mod would be welcomed. I realize lots of people really like DCI's but some of us prefer the stock look and quiet running.

I like the look and not interested in cone filters.
Also the under hood temperatures are very high and I can't see how a DCI will help unless you can feed it cool air from the grill area.

Hot intake air is bad.

I have a stock airbox with K&N drop in.

The gains from this if any will be very marginal! I don't plan to dyno either just a little mod I thought I'd try and if Iv gained any kind of efficiency from it then it's a bonus.

I wouldn't get too excited , but every little counts

If it seems to help a bit I'd get one myself.

Will you be able to check the turbo WGDCs and see if they are a little lower ? At least if the turbos aren't working quite as hard it's a benefit

Congrats......... I was wondering when someone was going to mention this instead of focussing on gains.
